Plagued by typos.

Apparently this is the UK edition. Apparently someone search-and-replaced all the American spellings with UK spellings. Unfortunately, this did not work out that well. For example, they replaced the word "fall" with "autumn," so now onion plants autumn over instead of falling over. Also many other similar issues. Way to be sloppy, translator. I would recommend the other edition, especially if you are finicky like me. Otherwise a fantastic book.

The Fast and the Furious

What a fast, curvy, and bumpy ride! John Cappas doesn't hold anything back in the telling of his story. This is the true story of his rise and fall in the drug world of the '80s. This is a story of fighting to redeem himself in the eyes of others (his family who never gave up on him) and for himself. John took his time behind bars and pushed himself to become a better man (college degree and mastering the culinary arts).

Growing up on the south side of Chicago in the same area and crossing path's with John it was a very interesting read. It definately was a little choppy and if you dont know any of the story or background it may be a tad rough to read.

Funny Book, Great Gift Idea for the Holidays

As a fan of The Middle, I knew Eden Sher was a hilarious actor, but now I know she's a hilarious writer, too. The Emotionary is perfect as a comedic coffee table book or for that person in your life who has all of the feelings and can't quite put them into words. The comics by Julia Werz are a perfect match for Sher's absurdly real feeling descriptions. I've now bought it for my sister and mom and couldn't recommend it more. Five stars.

be careful what you read and write

This is the book that helped me survived OS class at Berkeley. It explains everything clearly and in depth. The author has a thorough understanding of the subject that very few people can comprehend. As many people have said, everyone can use a computer and navigate the user-friendly OS, but only a few can understand multitasking, multi-threading, parallelism, non-deterministic execution, synchronization, and mutual exclusion, which are inherent to OS management of resources, even when he/she has an excellent book or a good teacher at hand. It is just over their heads.

Lacks actual code to write even a basic operating system

I have been searching for a decent guide to operating systems for quite a while. I have purchased others (some with complete OS code like Operating Systems - Design and Implementation) but they all lack the depth to fully understand the material. This book, for example, I didn't even see a section describing what modern bootloaders need to boot (being 512 bytes, and ending in 0xaa55 to signal bootable code). I understand that many use prebuild bootloaders like grub etc, but for me, I don't want work handed to me (even though it would be easier), I want to learn to do the steps myself. For any who are really interested in learning the very basics of bootloaders, loading a second stage bootloader, initializing GDT and IDT here are a couple links for you which I have personally used and still do use in my project. These tutorials may help you if you do purchase a book like this or others that (in my opinion) skip over important steps to developing your own OS.

About the Author
Rakesh V. Vohra is the John L. and Helen Kellogg Professor of Managerial Economics and Decision Sciences at the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University, where he is also Director of the Center for Mathematical Studies in Economics and Management Science. He previously taught at the Fisher School of Business, Ohio State University, MIT's Sloan School of Management, the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania and is the author of Advanced Mathematical Economics (2005) and Mechanism Design: A Linear Programming Approach (Econometric Society Monographs, Cambridge University Press, 2011). Professor Vohra received his doctorate in mathematics from the University of Maryland.

Lakshman Krishnamurthi is the Montgomery Ward Distinguished Professor of Marketing at the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University, where he has taught since 1980. He chaired the marketing department from 1993 to 2004 and has served as Academic Director of the Pricing Strategies and Tactics program since 1995. Professor Krishnamurthi is the recipient of the Paul Green and Donald Lehmann awards from the Journal of Marketing Research, the John D. C. Little award from Marketing Science and numerous teaching awards at Kellogg. He earned his doctorate in marketing from Stanford University.

Tuve la oportunidad de leer este libro y lo recomiendo con toda convicci�n y confianza. Toda pareja que se encuentre atravesando por problemas, necesita mejorar su comunicaci�n. Este libro proporciona las herramientas y t�cnicas necesarias, de una manera muy sencilla de comprender. Usando a conciencia lo que aqu� les ense�an, podr�n aprender a comunicarse, y llevar�n su relaci�n a otro nivel que nunca supieron que exist�a. Ambos tienen que estar dispuestos a colaborar, pero les asegur� que los resultados valdr�n la pena. Si tienen a Cristo en el centro de su relaci�n, todo se puede superar. No esperen a que sea demasiado tarde. I purchased this book while in the CCSP program and my only complaint is that I didn't buy it sooner. I wish I would've had time to read the entire thing before the test. I'm currently in the DACBSP program and fully intend to read the entire text before taking those exams. The information is clear, concise, and relevant. My thanks to the authors for producing such an important work.
