Reference for the Fan of de Havilland Mosquitos

Like fathers proudly describing their offspring, Sharp and Bowyer go into the genesis of the WW II's 'wooden wonder', its' ancestry, the number of fuel tanks and configurations. Easily 100 pages are devoted to design of fuselage, engines, wings, and pictures. They were faster than other bombers or heavy fighters; no wonder, they had a pair of Spitfire engines in a clean low-drag design.
13 July 1941, eight months after the prototype flight, a Mosquito went to No 1 Photographic Reconnaissance Unit. It and others carried cameras as far as Spain, Northern Germany and Norway. Day bombers reached 105 Sqdn 17 November 1941. Demand went through the roof; every commander wanted them.
Due to lower priority, building the cannon-armed version took another seven months. These carried out adrenaline-fueled intruder operations:
...His tour of duty expired, Scherf left 418 Squadron for Intruder Control, but he often elected to spend leave at Ford with 418, and was soon off on a Day Ranger, once with Johnny Caine. There was no cloud cover and Caine quite rightly turned back; Scherf went on, all but cutting the grass from the French meadows as he hurried along. By the River Loire, Scherf came across a Fieseler Storch flying so slowly and so low that its crew were able to land it and make for nearby trees, before Scherf made a bonfire of it!
